Baby Buddy
Babyzone is a UK registered charity built around a simple idea: confident, knowledgeable parents and practitioners raise thriving children. It runs a growing network of local hubs across England, Wales and Scotland, delivering free, evidence-informed classes and support alongside NHS teams, councils and other charity partners. In 2025, Babyzone took on Baby Buddy, an iOS and Android app originally built by the charity Best Beginnings. Baby Buddy gives expecting and new parents personalised, evidence-based daily guidance from pregnancy through a child's first birthday, alongside a video library covering infant care, feeding and mental health. Babyzone's plan is to combine the app with its own community-based hubs, so families get the same guidance whether they are online or in person.

TGA's work on Baby Buddy began in December 2023, when the app's technical home was still Best Beginnings. The app's original build was in Xamarin, a cross-platform framework nearing the end of its supported life, and it had developed a handful of Android video playback bugs along the way. Best Beginnings wanted off Xamarin entirely and onto a platform with a far larger developer community behind it, without losing any of the functionality parents and carers already relied on. TGA rebuilt the entire app in React Native, a full platform migration, not a surface-level patch. Along the way, TGA re-architected the backend into two clear layers, an API layer handling user data and a separate content layer serving the app's day-to-day guidance and video library, a cleaner foundation than the system it replaced. In-app analytics run through Power BI.

When Babyzone took over Baby Buddy's operation in March 2025, TGA's relationship carried over with it. TGA's work has since settled into ongoing maintenance with occasional new features as Babyzone's needs develop. The React Native rebuild is complete and live, replacing the Xamarin app it was built to retire.
